1. Why do we need another veterans’ organization?
There are many good veterans’ organization already in existence, and some of them are focused on many of the same issues as VUFT. Our concern that led us to starting VUFT was that none of them seemed to be concentrating on the two areas where we thought real progress could be made: Legislators and their performance on veterans’ issues, and the various departments that establish and administer veterans’ programs. That is all that we focus on. We have no facilities, have no social events, and have no goals other than those stated in our Mission Statement and Mission Essential Goals, which you can read and download on our “About Us” web page.
2. What is the purpose of Veterans United For Truth?
To work to improve the accession, training, equipping and commitment of active duty and reserve force military; to ensure that all persons active, reserve and guard are told the truth about the reasons for their commitment to specific conflicts, and the truth about their obligations; to work to ensure that the dependents of all persons on active duty receive services in a timely fashion; and, to work for legislation that guarantees benefits to all veterans without undue administrative complexity. Where the government of whatever branch faild to perform, we intend to edcucate the public and, if necessary, sue for such performance.
3. Why are you called Veterans United For Truth?
Quite simply because “TRUTH” seems to be the missing component of all current activities and programs designed to support military personnel and their families, and is likewise the missing component in the press and in government presentations to service persons and their families.
4. Is Veterans’ United For Truth a political organization?
No. VUFT is not a political organization in the sense of being a partisan organization. VUFT does not endorse candidates of any party, however, once a candidate is elected, he or she can expect to be the very specific subject of VUFT’s attention.
VUFT, Inc. is a national, non-profit, public service corporation, incorporated in the state of California [#c2766290]. Tax-exempt, tax-deductible status has been granted under IRC 501(c)(3) and CA RTC 23701w.
5. Are there ways that I can help in addition to my membership?
Contributions of money and time are the best way to provide additional support the purposes of the organization. We are looking for persons in every state to lead the effort in that state to introduce and support legislation, to organize Veterans’ Caucuses in the major parties, to organize Veterans’ Caucuses in the state legislatures, and to educate the public.
6. Are my contributions to Veterans United For Truth tax deductible?
Yes. All contributions will be receipted by VUFT, and money contributions are tax-deductible to the donor. Expenses incurred doing volunteer work for the organization are tax deductible within IRS guidelines, although time spent is not deductible.
If you are taking a deduction for your contribution to VUFT, our Tax ID Number is 20-3102897.
7. Does Veterans United For Truth have chapters?
VUFT intends to operate on a state chapter basis. We intend to have chapters in every state and territory. State chapters can concentrate on veterans’ issues with state legislatures as “hometown” constituents, and can best tailor such legislation to the needs within each state. Organizations within states can likewise be tailored to the needs and desires of veterans in that state.
The collective power of the state chapters will be coordinated by the national Board of Directors to mount concentrated pressure on Congress and the executive departments.
8. What does membership cost?
Membership is free. We encourage all members to donate for the continuing work of the organization.
9. How does VUFT plan to use the money it raises?
Surprisingly to most, running a non-profit costs money. For example, just to get non-profit status VUFT had to pay the Federal Government $500 to process the ruling. Each state charges varying amounts for the state ruling – California charges only $25. Funds will be used to pay for legal advice on various legislative initiatives.
Funds will be used for publishing of materials for membership use in our public education role.
Funds will be used on a reimbursement-of-reasonable-cost basis, if officers of VUFT incur travel expenses in lobbying for legislation or in testifying in support of legislation.
No person receives compensation for time spent from VUFT, except as the board might contract for outside support in the furtherance of the organization’s goals. There are no paid officers, and fornow there are no paid employees.
